Vintage in Finland

One thing that has surprised me is how good the vintage and 2nd hand selection is in Finland or at least in Helsinki. I have travelled to so many countries and cities where I would have thought that vintage would be cheap and good and have been greatly disappointed. I have found some of my best vintage finds ever in Helsinki and it’s definitely on top of my vintage cities sharing the throne with Paris.

My favourite places to find the good stuff in Helsinki are UFF and Fida. They both have several stores around the city and the best things about them is that they use their profits for charity!

UFF is a non profit, non governmental foundation. The foundation’s purpose is to contribute to and to enable and promote ecological, social and economic sustainability in the world in order to enable people, especially the less privileged, to increase their possibilities for reaching their full potential as humans and social beings. The foundation runs a 24/7 service for collecting re-wearable clothes. The collected items are sorted and handled for sale via retail and wholesale. The sales income forms the financing for the climate and global development actions.

Fida is a Finnish missions and development cooperation organisation working in 51 countries bringing hope and a future to the poorest of the poor. In particular, they are working to improve the rights of vulnerable children. The stock in their stores consists of the donations they receive. Each year, 1.7 million kilos of donated goods are recycled and exchanged into a better life for the world’s poorest children by them.

I have collected a few photos of my best and most recent finds. Maybe I can inspire some of you to travel to Helsinki for some vintage shopping if nothing else?
